The case for fewer, better things

The calmest rooms we have ever made all have one thing in common: the shortest shopping lists. Restraint isn’t austerity — it is making room for the things that matter.

Most homes don’t need more things; they need better ones, and fewer of them. A room with four beautiful pieces will always feel richer than a room with forty adequate ones.

Buy once, buy slowly

We encourage clients to leave space empty for a season. Living with a gap tells you what the room actually needs — and it is rarely what you would have bought in the first week.

How we edit a room

  1. Take everything off the surfaces and put back only what you use every week.

  2. Keep one statement piece per room and let it lead.

  3. Choose materials that age well: wood, wool, linen, stone.

The result is a home that is easier to clean, easier to love and much easier to come back to at the end of a long day.

One good chair, one good lamp and a lot of empty floor.

Every object in a room is asking for your attention. Fewer things means a quieter conversation.
